A home move feels overwhelming mainly because everything seems to need doing at once. It doesn't. Split it into weeks and each step is small. Here is the plan we suggest to customers who book home shifting with us.
3β4 weeks before: plan and declutter
- Fix your moving date and get a quote early. Booking with some lead time gives you a better choice of dates.
- Declutter room by room. Sell, donate or throw away what you don't use. Every item you don't move is one less thing to pack, load and unpack.
- Make a list of large items β fridge, washing machine, sofa, beds, almirah β and share it when you ask for a quote. Home size (1 RK, 1β4+ BHK) and these big items are what the team needs to plan the right vehicle.
- Tell your landlord or society about the move, and ask about lift bookings or truck entry timings at both buildings.
2 weeks before: paperwork and services
- Update your address for bank accounts, insurance, Aadhaar-linked services and subscriptions.
- Arrange disconnection or transfer of electricity, gas, internet and DTH.
- If you are also moving a car or bike, book it together β we can move your car or bike on the same move or separately.
- Start using up food in the fridge and pantry.
1 week before: pack the things you rarely use
If you're packing some things yourself, start with books, showpieces, out-of-season clothes and the kitchen items you don't use daily. A few habits make unpacking far easier:
- Label every box with the room it goes to and a short list of what's inside.
- Put heavy things in small boxes and light things in big ones.
- Mark boxes with glass or electronics as FRAGILE on more than one side.
- Keep important documents, jewellery, cash and medicines with you β not in the truck.
If you'd rather not pack at all, our team packs with quality materials β boxes, bubble wrap and protective padding β and can unpack and place furniture at the new home on request.
The day before
- Defrost and dry the fridge, and drain the washing machine.
- Pack an "open first" bag: phone chargers, a change of clothes, toiletries, basic utensils, snacks, medicines and important papers.
- Take photos of electronics wiring (TV, Wi-Fi router) so reconnecting is easy.
Shifting day
- Be present while items are loaded, and do a last walk through every room, cupboard and loft.
- Keep the dedicated support contact's number handy β you get one contact for the whole move.
- Note the meter readings at the old house before you leave.
At the new home
- Check boxes and furniture as they come off the truck.
- If anything is damaged, report it at delivery with photos. Household goods are covered by insurance while in our custody, and a claim is far simpler when it's reported straight away.
- Unpack the "open first" bag and the kitchen and bedroom boxes first β the rest can wait.
